March 22, 2022, Severe Weather Update #4



PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is working to validate damage assessments following severe weather on March 22, 2022. At the time of this release, the National Weather Service Jackson has confirmed 11 tornadoes that swept across the state. Three injuries were reported to MEMA due to the storms (Clay, Copiah, and Holmes).

Overnight, the American Red Cross opened a shelter at Mileston Cooperative Community Center AT 147 Head Start Road, Tchula, Mississippi, for anyone affected by the storms and in need of sheltering.

The following damage numbers are PRELIMINARY and are subject to change throughout the assessment and validation process.

We have reports from 14 counties that 224 homes have sustained some type of damage. At this time, 22 are classified as destroyed, and 34 are considered to have major damage in Attala, Clay, Hinds, Holmes, Kemper and Warren counties.
