PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is actively responding to the severe weather events that affected the state on April 5 and April 6, 2025. There are reports of homes damaged, trees down, flooding, and power outages due to the severe storms. Sadly, there has been one fatality in Jasper County and one injury in Pontotoc County reported to MEMA.
Initial damage assessments are underway, and 14 counties are currently reporting damage. We anticipate that number will change as we are in the early stages of the damage assessment process. The counties reporting damage are:
- Alcorn
- Desoto
- Forrest
- Hinds
- Jasper
- Kemper
- Lafayette
- Pontotoc
- Quitman
- Smith
- Sunflower
- Tallahatchie
- Tunica
- Union
MEMA encourages residents who’ve sustained damage from this severe weather event to do the following:
- File an insurance claim.
- Take photos of the damage to the home.
- Report damage to their county/MEMA via the self-report tool.
- If citizens have immediate, unmet needs, they are encouraged to contact their county emergency management agency. A list of those county contacts can be found here.
