PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), along with state and local officials, faith-based organizations, volunteers, and private sector partners, is actively responding to the severe weather that struck the state on April 2 through April 6, 2025, resulting in the loss of one life in Jasper County and injuring seven more Mississippians.
MEMA teams continue to assist counties with ongoing damage assessments. To date, the agency has recorded damage to 274 homes, 4 businesses, and 9 farms across 20 counties. Of the homes affected, 50 were destroyed, while 53 sustained major damage. These figures are subject to change as further evaluations are conducted. MEMA has filled requests for 2,000 sandbags, 530 tarps, 4,000 bottles of water, and more than 500 MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) for counties.
If citizens have immediate unmet needs due to the storms, they are encouraged to contact their county emergency management agency. A list of those county contacts can be found here.
A shelter is open for survivors in Marshall County at Hudsonville C.M.E Church, located at 778 S Slayden Road, Lamar, MS. The American Red Cross is feeding survivors in affected counties and the Mississippi Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is assisting homeowners with debris removal and tarping homes in several locations.
MEMA welcomes all volunteers who want to help; however, we encourage individuals to avoid self-deploying. Instead, please join a verified organization or nonprofit that assists during disasters before heading to the affected area.
