PEARL – 2019 was a record-breaking year for tornadoes in Mississippi. According to data released by the National Weather Service, there were 115 confirmed tornadoes in the state last year, breaking the previous record of 109 in 2008. This record-setting number of tornadoes is responsible for three deaths.
The most active months were April and December. In April, there were 67 tornadoes, which tied the record for that month. Meanwhile, there were 24 in December, and that total set a record for the final month of the year. The previous record was 16, which happened in 1988 and 2008.
