Pearl – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to assess the damage and aid in response and recovery in multiple counties affected by the March 24th tornadoes and severe weather.
Residents in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey Counties can now register for FEMA Individual Assistance by going online to disasterassistance.gov or calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), disaster number DR- 4697.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Mobile Application Centers are now open to serve those affected by the storms and severe weather at the following locations:

FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) teams are also going door-to-door to assist residents with their FEMA applications. Residents are strongly advised NOT to disclose any personally identifiable information to anyone unless they are wearing FEMA attire and have their federal photo identification badge.
The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) is strongly encouraging all insurance carriers in the state to work with policyholders in Sharkey, Humphreys, Carroll, and Monroe counties for a period of 90 days, March 24, 2023, to June 21, 2023, before issuing a cancellation or non-renewal of policies due to nonpayment of premiums. Policyholders in the affected areas with their premiums on an automatic draft or electronic funds transfer arrangement must contact their financial institution to stop these payments.
Residents in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey counties in Mississippi are eligible for both Physical and Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Small businesses and most private nonprofit organizations in the following adjacent counties are eligible to apply only for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs): Attala, Chickasaw, Clay, Grenada, Holmes, Issaquena, Itawamba, Lee, Leflore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Sunflower, Washington, and Yazoo in Mississippi.

Atmos Energy crews continue to survey and assess the natural gas system in the Rolling Fork area. Natural gas service is currently shut off to the affected areas of Rolling Fork. Atmos Energy will notify residents once it becomes safe to restore services.

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is in contact with the six school districts affected by the March 24th tornado. It will continue to assess their needs to provide help and support.
South Delta School District (Sharkey County)
- Schools are closed until further notice.
- Surrounding districts are contacting the South Delta School District superintendent, offering to receive the South Delta students for continued instruction.
Amory School District (Monroe County)
- District has been in contact with MDE while considering virtual learning options if roads are not cleared once power is back.
- Schools closed at least through 3/31/23.
Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District (Montgomery County)
- Buildings: No damage to schools.
- Schools will resume classes today, 3/30/23
Other
- All school districts have 10 weather days they do not need to make up.
- The Governor’s declared State of Emergency allows staff displaced from school buildings to continue to be paid.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients who have lost food due to THIS disaster have until Monday, April 24, 2023, to request replacement benefits. Residents must request a replacement at their local Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS). Households can also submit the replacement request using mail, email, or the upload feature on the MDHS website. (www.mdhs.ms.gov). For assistance completing the SNAP replacement application, residents can contact the Economic Assistance Center at 800-948-3050.
The Mississippi Division of Medicaid has enacted its state of emergency to allow patients impacted by the storm to receive early refills and additional prescriptions above the monthly limit. The Department of Mental Health reports that the Region 6 Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is responding to the community to bring supplies and meet mental health needs. Those specialists are available to provide services in the community for anyone experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The DMH Helpline is also available for information and referral services and can be reached at 1-877-210-8513.
