PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The final reimbursements of CARES Act funds have been dispersed to local governments through MEMA’s COVID-19 Relief Program. A total of $68,463,159.33 was paid out to Mississippi counties and municipalities to reimburse local governments for COVID-19 expenses.
In August, Governor Tate Reeves and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency launched the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Program. Through the Mississippi Legislature, MEMA was allocated $70 million of CARES Act Money to reimburse county and municipal governments for COVID-19 expenses.
All 82 counties applied for CARES Act funds through the program and received 100% of their allocation rate; 270 municipalities also applied for reimbursement, receiving 97% of their allocations.
“Our MEMA Team managed to successfully reimburse counties and municipalities with CARES Act funds all while responding to a pandemic, purchasing and delivering PPE and responding to tropical storm and hurricanes. Everyday we are working to serve the wonderful citizens of this great state. This final payment is a testament to the dedication we at MEMA have to our counties, municipalities and the taxpayers of the state,” says Deputy Director Stephen McCraney.
